This chunky wood plaque has been hand carved and painted in Bali in Indonesia. It's detailed decorative etchings depict 'The Tree of Life.' The Tree is a major feature in the story of Adam and Eve in The Garden of Eden as well as having analogues in many other religions. In Norse mythology for example, the tree is known as Yggdrasil and connects the nine worlds.
"Out of the ground the Lord God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.…" Genesis 2:8
