Maltesers to go Fair Trade in 2012

Mars is the latest chocolate manufacturer to source one of its products from Fair Trade source.

Maltesers is the UK’s third largest confectionery brand (after Cadbury Dairy Milk and Galaxy) so this is a major commitment by the company, and one which will deliver over $1 million in Fairtrade premiums each year to the small farmer cooperatives involved in West Africa. We can also confirm that the sugar and the vanilla in Maltesers will also be Fairtrade certified in line with our normal composite product policy.

Bristol Fair Trade Business Awards 2012

This years awards ceremony to be held on Friday 9th March 2012 at Leigh Court, Bristol hosted by the BBC’s George Alagiah

The Bristol Fairtrade Business Awards, sponsored by The Co-Operative, are the first of their kind. The awards ceremony will be held at Leigh Court, Bristol on Friday 9th March 12-2pm and hosted by George Alagiah.

Every business that meets the criteria for the Bronze, Silver or Gold Award will receive a Fairtrade Business certificate, as well as an e-logo to use for their business, and the opportunity to progress to the next level. These will be awarded at the Fairtrade Business Awards ceremony on 9th March, along with the overall winners for each category.
By entering the Awards and gaining a bronze, silver, or gold award you will demonstrate your company’s commitment to fair and ethical business

Featured Product – Grow your own Llama

Spring will soon be upon us and those green fingered among will get planting – here’s a great alternative and maybe something the younger ones will enjoy

These animals come packed in a box with seeds and full instructions. You need to fill the animal with water and soak the seeds for an hour or so, then gently cover the surface of the animal with the moist seeds. Leave the animal for a few days, making sure it is kept topped up with water.

Grow your own Llama

Soon you will have your own hairy animal and some home grown cress for your salads! Of course, you can keep re-using your animal over and over again. These make a fun and original present for people of any age.

We also have Turtles, Mushrooms, Sheep and Pigs! All ready to grow.

FairTrade Fortnight 2012

A belated Happy New Year to you all and hope this year has started well. Just to remind you all that our New Year Sale continues with up to 50% off some items. We will continue our Sale throughout January and will be adding new lines. They can all be found in our Sale section of our site here Llama Fair Trade.

We have sourced a some great handmade books and photo albums from a Fair Trade scheme in Thailand. These all have recycled paper and a green theme throughout. Although probably a bit early in the year but one also contains seed paper – but what will grow from it??
