Well the Sun is out and shining and its only March! We have been out enjoying the garden already and been thinking about a few nice mobiles and other decorations in the garden.

Our Twisels are handmade from strips of wood, they spin in the breeze and can be used inside and out. They compliment our winchimes and can be adjusted to give you the degree of spiral that you want. Our twisels are 21 cm long and 12 cm diameter.

The Hill Tribes of Northern Thailand are amazingly skilled artisans, producing a wide array of products such are basket wear, weaponry, musical instruments, tools, weaving, embroidery and the finest of silver. Appreciating the true cultural value of their crafts enables their traditional livelihoods to be sustained, work and training is then available for the next generation and their tribal heritage can be preserved.

Five Hill Tribes are involved in silver production, these are, Karen, Akha, Lahu, Hmong and Lisu. It is the Karen however who produce silver on a commercial scale

London 2012 signs ground-breaking agreement with the Playfair 2012 Campaign to protect workers’ rights

In response to the evidence of exploitation of workers producing goods for London 2012, detailed in the new report Toying with Workers’ Rights (Play Fair, 2012), the organisers of the London Games have signed a ground-breaking agreement with the Playfair 2012 campaign to protect the rights of workers in its supply chains.

“Consumers may feel the Olympic mascots are fun and cute, they will never think of the hard work, low wages…..we have in the factory.” Worker making London 2012 mascots, China. (Play Fair, 2012)

This follows the ground-breaking agreement signed between the TUC/Playfair 2012 campaign and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

The Playfair 2012 campaign recognises that LOCOG is the first Games organiser to take this step towards transparency and we welcome the progress that the organisers and some companies have now made in this respect. Companies listed are: Adidas (disclosed July 2011); Golden Bear Toys; Haymarket Publishing; Honav; Hornby Hobbies Ltd; Innovative Sports Limited; Merrythought; Samlerhuset; The Royal Mail; The Royal Mint; and WWRD. We hope that more London 2012 licensees/suppliers will follow suit and agree to be more open about where their goods are made and the conditions in which they are produced.

Maltesers to go Fair Trade in 2012

Mars is the latest chocolate manufacturer to source one of its products from Fair Trade source.

Maltesers is the UK’s third largest confectionery brand (after Cadbury Dairy Milk and Galaxy) so this is a major commitment by the company, and one which will deliver over $1 million in Fairtrade premiums each year to the small farmer cooperatives involved in West Africa. We can also confirm that the sugar and the vanilla in Maltesers will also be Fairtrade certified in line with our normal composite product policy.
